FIREEMSBOOTCAMP
Welcome to our FIREEMSBOOTCAMP web page. This bootcamp was founded 15 years ago to allow ages 14-21 years an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement and Military and spark an interest into a possible career pathway, during a one-weekend academy. It is a 53 hour, jam-packed, fun-filled weekend and is put on every summer, the last weekend in June, at Camp Morning Star in Angelus Oaks. Patricia Baker, the Camp Director, graciously donates the camp to us the same time each year, for these cadets the have the best experience, at a minimal cost.
Running concurrently, we have added a JUNIOR FIRE/EMS BOOTCAMP, to allow ages 9-13 years to shadow the 14-21 year-olds. This will be year number 4 for the juniors. This, not only allows the juniors an opportunity to gain an interest in a career path, (usually excluded from explorer posts or academy opportunities such as this) it allows the older kids to further develop their leadership skills and strengthen their teamwork abilities by guiding the juniors throughout the weekend. We have also added a Li'l Boots Fire/EMS 1-day Bootcamp at San Bernardino County Fire Station 98 and will be our 2nd year.
The nominal registration (for the Fire/EMS Bootcamp and the Jr. Fire/EMS Bootcamp) pays for 6 meals, a uniform shirt and a digital link to the DVD that captures the entire weekend. They will learn classroom and hands-on skills in the following areas: Structure Fire Preparedness, Wildland Firefighting, Low-angle awareness to include ropes and knots, Vehicle Extrication, Trauma C-spine, CPR (will receive CPR cards), Swift Water Awareness, Teamwork, Leadership, MCI, and competitions in a few other skills. There is also a luncheon followed by a graduation ceremony including bag pipes and awards.
Scholarships can be earned and are awarded during the graduation ceremony and will be valid for the following year's bootcamp. Friendships will created and career bonds are fostered with the multiple agencies that volunteer their time to provide these cadets their expertise and guidance during the classroom and manipulative skills.
Now, on it's 3rd year, we have a one-day Li'l Boots Fire/EMS Bootcamp for 5-8 year olds, at our Fire Station in Angelus Oaks (Statoin 98).
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, know someone 14-21 years old or 9-13 years old or 5-8 year old who would be interested, feel free to explore the site and find the registration and details to get signed up. Any other questions feel free to contact us. We will respond right back. We look forward to meeting you at camp.
